DAY 1: Jesus Lifted Others’ Burdens Light the World

Song: December Song

Scripture: Mark 2:8-11

And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

Advent Gift Idea:

A toy airplane or make one out of paper. They can color their paper airplanes and race them.

#1 Teach: Jesus was always looking for ways to help others and to lift them from their burdens or from the hard things in life that people were going through. Even though you are young, you to can lift others up and help them feel better just let an airplane “lifts” itself off the ground and takes people to another place. We can help Jesus lift the burdens of others by being kind, showing love and serving others.

#2 Application: Have your child trace the daily focus statement in their workbook and have them answer this question: What are ways you can help “lift” others? If they can’t write then have them draw a picture about what they would do on the backside of the paper.

Service Idea: Help lift the burdens of others by starting a Reverse Christmas Advent. Find a box or basket and fill it up with canned or boxed food. Each day add a new food item until Christmas day. Take your donated items to a local food bank. Get the kids involved by inviting them to donate any of their own money in their piggy banks to go shopping with you and purchase some food for the family advent box.
