LDS Primary Singing Time: Little Jesus Song

Today in primary we started learning the song “Little Jesus.” I used these chalkboard visuals to help them learn the words. I also used hand signs to help them remember. Each page has a different hand sign:

  1. Little Jesus: cradle arms like you are rocking a baby
  2. Came: take both hands and turn them out like they are welcoming someone that is coming.
  3. Show: make circles with hands and put them over your eyes.
  4. Sing: wave your hand like you are leading music.
  5. Little Jesus: cradle arms like you are rocking a baby
  6. Smile: Point to your mouth and smile
  7. Gift: Cross hands over heart (meaning the gift we give Jesus is our heart)
  8. Sing: wave your hand like you are leading music.

I drew a picture of three things on the board like dot-to-dot. You can pick anything, but I used a heart, eye, and a foot. I talked about how Elder Stevenson taught us to Love, Share, and Invite. You can watch the video about How to Be a light below, you can start at 2:30 where I teach this idea.

In primary I just said it pretty quickly that we use our heart to love others, our eyes to see the needs of others and share our love with them, and our feet to walk and do what Jesus would have them do. I changed them to do that during the week. I only got the first two done before we had to go so we will work on the last dot-to-dot in singing time again.

Here is a picture of our dot-to-dot. Nothing fancy. I love easy that still engages the kids.

Chalkboard Visuals

Here are the chalkboard visuals if you are teaching this song. I also made a sing-along video that matches the visuals to help the kids practice at home. This is the song we will be singing on Christmas Day during Sacrament.
