Day 8: Jesus Taught Us to Pray Light the World

Song: The Prayer

Scripture: Matthew 6:1-3

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.

Advent Gift Idea: A rock and paint.

#1 Teach: Jesus taught us how to pray. Using the prayer sandwich visuals teach your child how to pray. Start with the bread and tell them how to start and end their prayer. Next talk about all the different ingredients you can put into your sandwich that represents all the different things you can talk to God about such as, “we can ask for help…” or “we can say thanks for…” We build our sandwich like we would build a prayer!

#2 Application: Have your child paint the words “PRAYER” and put it by their bed. Each morning and night it can be a reminder to say their prayer so that God becomes their foundation or “rock” of their life.

Service Idea: Ask God how you can be an answer to someone else’s prayer.
